Protect the Sanctity of Life–Compassion Matters

Life matters: Consider the wonder of birth, the joy of growing up, and the satisfaction of serving and helping one another along this life journey. No man or woman or boy or girl is a lone island. Make your life story one that reflects compassion, peace, kindness, and truth. Remember, our daily actions create the stories that others will tell about us. So, extend your hands to help those in pain. Let’s learn to listen, not only with our ears but with our hearts. Let’s take compassionate actions to bring peace and comforting assurance when others seem overwhelmed.

Sometimes it may seem that life holds no meaning. Our efforts seem to go unnoticed or disregarded. Thoughts bate us into a damning path of hopelessness. But, take courage. There’s a fix for the barrage of negativity that fills our headspace. Stop and take notice of what’s around us and who surrounds us. We may not have the ability or the resources to fix all the woes of life, but we can bring a little joy and hope to someone’s circumstances. All we need to do is look for an opportunity to give a listening ear or a helping hand to someone or something that needs what’s in our hands–our ability, our time, our attention, and our compassion. Each day, we receive a blessing: one more chance to let someone know that his life matters. Believe it: our compassion matters.

Just maybe, if those troubled souls who have assaulted our communities with venomous terror and animosity believed that their lives had a purpose, we would have so much rampant killing. Their pleas for attention would have received much-needed attention from community members. So many lives are interrupted and cut short because tormented minds lost their way. They became blindsided by whatever clouded their vision. Consequently, they failed to honor and protect the sanctity of life. Trauma blisters and affects all of us in one way or another. The angry and violent (if they survive) must live with their heartless actions. Their families bear the shame. Families and households become ravaged by grief and rage at the meaningless loss of a loved one.

If we learn to listen with our hearts, we may notice the broken and troubled souls stumbling through life. If we take the time to notice the marginalized, we may help pull one from dwelling on the dark side. This message by no means is an indictment for us to bear the actions of those who’ve spiraled out of control. They must shoulder their own load for bringing heinous harm to the innocent. But, we also must weigh in on those days when we receive an inner prompt to go the extra mile to encourage someone with a word, smile, or a kind gesture, but we neglect to do it. We can’t undo what has been done, but let’s protect the sanctity of life going forward. Let’s show compassion in every way possible. Maybe, those living on the edge of breakdown can get restored. A life saved is a home saved and a community saved. We need healing. We need restoration. We need compassion in action. We need it now!

What are we to do? REMEMBER.

What are we to remember? LIFE IS SACRED.

Why is life sacred? EACH LIFE EMBODIES GIFTS, TALENTS, & PURPOSE.

How must we treat others? TREAT OTHERS AS THOUGH THEY’RE WORTHY OF SAFEKEEPING.

Why? COMPASSION MATTERS because LIFE MATTERS.

PROTECT THE SANCTITY OF LIFE WITH COMPASSION IN ACTION!
